The United States Postal Service recently announced an important update regarding its Mail Processing and Distribution Center located in Greenville. The facility will remain operational and will undergo a significant upgrade, receiving an investment of $12.7 million.
This funding, which is part of a broader initiative called the “Delivering for America” plan, aims to modernize the postal network across the country. Situated at 4605 Dairy Drive, the Greenville center will be transformed into a local processing hub. It will take on several roles, including handling package mailing and shipping, managing letters and flats, offering express services, and accepting bulk and permit mail.
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy emphasized the significance of this investment, stating that it is not just about improving the working conditions for employees. It’s about equipping the facility with the latest technology and resources to ensure excellent service for the local community for years to come. He mentioned that the operational strategy under review is designed to create considerable savings for the Postal Service while maintaining effective mail processing operations in Greenville.
In early 2024, the Greenville facility was included in a review of postal processing locations, which aimed to identify cost-saving measures, particularly focusing on transportation efficiencies. This development highlights the Postal Service’s commitment to enhancing its services and adapting to the needs of the communities it serves.
