Here’s a summary of the Greenville County Council meeting held on November 5th.
Second Approval: Multiple Tax Incentives
The council approved a second reading for several tax incentive measures related to various economic development projects across the county. This includes resolutions for a $19.6 million project from Southpoint Commerce Center LLC, which will develop 23 acres of land with five industrial buildings, each ranging from 25,000 to 100,000 square feet, located near the South Carolina Technology and Aviation Center.
In addition to this, the council is looking at projects that anticipate an investment of over $509 million, which would create nearly 1,000 new jobs. These projects include:
- Project Blackbird: $215.9 million investment, creating 702 jobs
- Project Strong: $47.5 million investment, generating 200 jobs
- Project Bolt: $50 million investment, job details are unspecified
- Project Double Eagle I: $102 million investment, providing 50 jobs
- Project Double Eagle II: $93.9 million investment, resulting in 150 jobs
The names of the companies involved in these projects will have to be revealed before the third reading. The council plans to give final approval for these items on December 3.
Second Approval: Bond Issue for Greater Greenville Sanitation District
The council also approved an ordinance to issue $34 million in general obligation bonds for the Greater Greenville Sanitation District. This funding will support the construction of various facilities, including a new administration and operations center, maintenance facility, fueling stations, waste transfer station, truck wash facilities, and storage for equipment.
During a public hearing before the vote, six citizens voiced their opposition to the bond issue. This will also be forwarded to the County Council for final approval on December 3.
Other Items
- The council approved the second reading for transferring ownership and operation of Poinsett Park, Gateway Park, and Trailblazer Park to the city of Travelers Rest, which will be finalized on December 3.
- Additionally, a vote was postponed regarding the sale of a 5.3-acre county-owned parcel on Chapman Grove Road in Pelzer for $122,000. This will be reviewed again on December 3.
