Senator Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee is set to introduce a new set of laws aimed at making the federal government more efficient, in line with the goals of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy’s initiative known as the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This initiative has garnered attention among Republican lawmakers who support efforts to cut excessive government spending.
In a recent announcement on X (formerly Twitter), Blackburn revealed that she will be presenting the “DOGE Acts.” These proposed laws seek to relocate federal agencies out of Washington, D.C., implement a freeze on federal hiring and salaries for one year, and ensure that federal employees return to their offices.
According to Blackburn, “My DOGE Act will freeze federal hiring, begin the process to relocate agencies out of the D.C. swamp, and establish a merit-based salary system for the federal workforce.” The senator’s team communicated that a series of these bills will be announced soon.
The DOGE Acts will align with the cost-cutting plan that Musk and Ramaswamy are promoting. Blackburn’s office stated, “The DOGE Acts aim to hold the federal government more accountable for managing taxpayer dollars next week.”
The announcement coincided with a day of meetings with lawmakers, where Musk and Ramaswamy discussed various strategies for cutting costs in the federal government. Many lawmakers expressed positive feedback about the DOGE framework after their discussions.
In addition to Blackburn’s plans, Sen. Joni Ernst, a Republican from Iowa, also shared a comprehensive cost-cutting proposal during a Senate meeting with GOP members and Ramaswamy.
The DOGE initiative has already begun to attract bipartisan support. Recently, Representative Jared Moskowitz, a Democrat from Florida, joined the Republican-led congressional caucus. During a meeting with Congress, Musk indicated his openness to including Democratic representatives in the DOGE discussions.
This series of initiatives signals a concerted effort by conservatives to make government operations leaner and more effective, emphasizing accountability and efficient use of taxpayer funds.
