Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin is set to launch a new video advertisement aimed at attracting workers and officials relocating to the Washington, D.C. area, particularly appealing to those joining the upcoming Trump administration. The ad will be unveiled on Tuesday, touting Virginia as a superior choice compared to D.C. and Maryland.
Youngkin, who emphasized education during his successful campaign in 2021, asserted that Virginia offers schools that are better than those in its neighboring states. He pointed to a recent CNBC report that ranked Virginia as the top state in education and first for business, surpassing North Carolina this year.
In his message, Youngkin expressed, “To the new members of President Trump’s administration moving to the area, I want to personally invite you to make Virginia your home.” He highlighted the state’s advantageous position, stating, “Virginia is right across the Potomac. We offer a great quality of life, safe communities, award-winning schools where parents matter, and lower taxes than D.C. or Maryland.”
While Maryland ranked 31st in business-friendliness and D.C. was unranked, Youngkin’s ad showcases various appealing locations within Virginia, including the capital, Richmond, and the historic Old Town Alexandria.
The governor believes many are drawn to Virginia because it is the ideal place to live, work, and raise a family. He has consistently championed education as the cornerstone of achieving the American dream and credited both his administration and the Democratic-controlled legislature for reaching a bipartisan agreement on significant funding for K-12 education.
Commenting on Virginia’s appeal to the new administration, Trump transition team spokesman Brian Hughes remarked that Youngkin’s successful governance speaks volumes on its own.
Youngkin emerged victorious in the 2021 gubernatorial race, shifting the political landscape in a state where Republicans had been out of power for a decade. Although he cannot run for consecutive terms due to state law, his deputy, Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears, has announced her campaign for governor in 2025, aiming to continue the initiatives set forth during Youngkin’s administration.
As the political atmosphere gears up for the upcoming elections, the most prominent Democratic challenger is Rep. Abigail Spanberger, who has stepped down from her congressional seat to pursue the governorship.
