Two separate plane collisions caused significant disruption at Boston Logan International Airport on a busy travel day this past Monday.
The first incident involved an American Airlines jet, which, while taxiing to its gate, struck the wing of a parked Frontier Airlines aircraft. Witnesses described the scene, noting the sudden loud bang. One Frontier passenger, Evelyn Pipione, shared her fear as the incident unfolded, comparing the noise to something falling.
Footage captured by bystanders showed the damage clearly, with the wing of the Frontier plane visibly buckled beneath the larger American aircraft. Douglas Garcia, who recorded the video, explained how the wing of his smaller plane was cracked while the larger jet was positioned awkwardly over it.
The American Airlines flight had just arrived from London, while the Frontier flight was scheduled to head to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. Passengers and crew from both planes were safely evacuated as inspections commenced. Unfortunately, the Frontier flight was canceled, posing a headache for travelers just days before Thanksgiving. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Later that same day, a second collision occurred when a JetBlue plane, while being towed, collided with a Cape Air aircraft that had recently landed. The Cape Air flight was occupied by five individuals, while the JetBlue plane was empty. Although there were no serious injuries, both pilots from the two aircraft were taken to a hospital for precautionary measures.
One witness, Caroline Agid, described the chaotic scene, noting the flashing red lights that surrounded the accident. She was supposed to board the JetBlue flight to Orlando, but her departure was delayed for three hours as the airline arranged for a backup plane.
Both collisions are currently under investigation by the FAA and the involved airlines, as they work to determine the causes and prevent future incidents.
