A man in Florida has been arrested after allegedly breaking into a woman’s home and attacking her while she was sleeping. Bonnier Jose Sarmiento Lanza, 33, is accused of entering the woman’s residence in Tice and stabbing her multiple times early Sunday morning. Reports from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office indicate that he also struck another person in the home before attempting to flee the scene.
Thanks to the quick response of local deputies, the injured woman received medical assistance at the scene. As the deputies pursued Lanza, they utilized a drone to help locate him. The drone footage captured him walking through the neighborhood until deputies were able to apprehend him.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno praised the efforts of his team in a statement, commending both the deputies and the drone operator for their effective collaboration in apprehending such a dangerous suspect.
“The use of technology alongside our dedicated patrol deputies leads to positive outcomes,” Marceno said.
The woman involved in this incident is now listed in stable condition. Authorities have confirmed that Lanza and the victim were known to each other. He is now facing serious charges, including two counts of burglary with battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
