A Colorado dentist, accused of poisoning his wife to start a new life with another woman, is now facing serious allegations of attempting to have a police detective killed. This shocking development comes just a week after the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced new charges against James Toliver Craig, 46.
Authorities announced that Craig allegedly tried to hire a fellow inmate to murder the detective investigating the death of his wife, Angela Craig. James has been in custody at the Arapahoe County Detention Center following his wife’s death in March 2023.
The charges against him include first-degree solicitation to commit murder and perjury, in addition to a previous charge of first-degree murder related to Angela’s death. He has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
In a recent twist, Craig’s attorneys stepped back from representing him due to “professional conflict and other reasons,” delaying his trial originally set for November 21.
Angela, 43 at the time of her death, suffered from dizziness and fainting spells before being hospitalized multiple times, ultimately passing away on March 15. Police investigations found that James had reportedly researched and bought dangerous poisons like potassium cyanide and arsenic, the same substances that caused Angela’s symptoms leading up to her death.
The investigation also uncovered communications between James and a female dental professional in Texas, suggesting an intimate relationship. This was happening during Angela’s hospitalization, and those close to the couple mentioned long-standing marital issues, including allegations of James cheating and struggling with pornography addiction.
The next court hearing for James Craig is set for December 16, as the case continues to unfold.
