Clemson Triumphs Over Virginia Tech, 24-14
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — The No. 19 Clemson Tigers showcased their strength with a 24-14 victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday, thanks to quarterback Cade Klubnik’s impressive performance. Klubnik threw three touchdown passes, leading his team to bounce back after a recent home defeat to Louisville.
The Tigers (7-2, 6-1) demonstrated a solid defense, limiting Virginia Tech to just 228 yards, the lowest for the Hokies this season. This win marked Clemson’s seventh consecutive victory over Virginia Tech, keeping them firmly in the race for the ACC title.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney expressed pride in his team’s resilience, saying, “That’s how you respond coming off an incredibly disappointing performance last week. To see our guys respond like that, with unbelievable mental toughness and a will to win, they had a determined spirit.”
On the other hand, Kyron Drones led Virginia Tech (5-5, 3-3) with 115 passing yards but was replaced in the fourth quarter as the team trailed 21-7.
The Tigers faced a 7-0 deficit at halftime but turned the game around with touchdowns on three of their first four possessions in the second half. Klubnik started the scoring spree with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Cole Turner, followed by a 41-yard completion to T.J. Moore. He capped his performance with a 12-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jake Briningstool early in the fourth quarter.
